Jesus is explaining a point of natural law. Ancient people did a lot of thinking about these things. In terms of natural law, being a phony has negative consequences. Are there any exceptions? No, not so far.

Conservatives fight and die to enhance and maintain their self esteem. Notice that “conservatives” constantly offer righteous notions about everything from the economy to national defense. They love to hear each other talk and end up feeling “right” with respect to their opinions.

Not one of them has any influence over government nor any representation in congress. They have no information. They have high self esteem and love to hear themselves and others talk. This is the nature of practicing righteousness before men in order to be admired.

Natural law applies to everyone believers and non believers. Liberals do the same thing but they are not doing much damage right now. Conservatives are only fooling themselves.

Notice that not once in our country’s history have “conservatives” reined in government. They never will because their reward is feeling good about themselves.

What needs to be done now is for all citizens to take an interest in controlling the representatives they elect. That is not necessary in order to maintain high self esteem.
