Does self interest disappear when government provides a service? No, not at all. Self interest is the dominant motive in all human activity. It is a constant. People who work in government are guided by self interest, just as are folks in the private sector. Given time, every government agency begins to serve mostly the people who work in the agency as well as others who prosper as a result of the agency’s existence.
The notion that self interest disappears when government takes on a task may or not be the biggest lie. There are others, but it is close to the top.
