Americans profess their freedom. Americans feel free but how free are they? Americans are free to the extent that it is profitable to the elite minority to have it that way. Threaten the well being of the financially elite and you will be surprised at how quickly your perceived freedom disappears. If you are a Republican or a Democrat your role is to assist your betters in attaining their goals. Party agenda is set at the national level. The party faithful at the bottom are soldiers in ideological armies. This is not self government. You have no representation and you do not insist on having any. Are conditions in this country going to bad? Yes!
