Who wants to know what reality is? Who wants to be in touch with reality? What if it turns out that reality is not all that pleasant to think about? If reality is not at all pleasant, it makes sense that most people replace it with fantasy. Is there any harm in that? Who is to say?
To appreciate the fantasy free approach to economics, political science or for that matter any discipline it is not necessary to be in touch with reality. To truly understand what is going on in the world it is absolutely critical. For the practice of self government to continue, at least some of a country’s population must be in touch with reality. As it is, in the United States, there are not enough to enable us to survive as a free society.
I have created a Youtube channel for the purpose of mainstreaming the fantasy free concept with the hopes of generating some interest in using the approach. The Youtube Fantasy Free Economics channel begins with one video explaining just what reality is and what it means to be in touch with reality.
If all we do is live our lives and in the end face annihilation, what is the harm in numbing ourselves to harsh realities? Lives and choices are mostly lived with reality kept at a safe distance. I cannot guarantee that that is not the best choice. It is not my choice but still I cannot produce sound reasoning to show that staring reality in the face is a better choice.
Fantasy largely replaces reality in all but a few minds. It can be argued that an individual is better off being numbed to the raw harshness of existence. However, society as a whole is better off when everyone faces life exactly as it presents itself.
It is my estimate, and no one else’s, that only 3 percent of any population stays in touch with reality. That is not a stable number. As the number gets closer to zero than to to 3%, progress of humanity goes into retrograde.
I have explained that nature provides only one universal incentive, self interest. Hardly a soul does not believe in the imaginary incentive to serve. It is comforting to believe others like politicians are overcome by a deep desire to serve, others who see themselves as special and deserving of service. This is all fantasy. This particular fantasy is completely destructive in a democratic system because there are no saintly people with a burning desire to serve other people.
It is normal to seek comfort by believing lies. It is highly dangerous when an entire population is indulging in that practice. That is the situation we are in in the united states today.
So, while I acknowledge that there is no way to prove the average person is better off staring reality in the face, there may be great negative consequences if a significant number of people don’t do just that. Just for now, I am making an effort to convince a few folks.
The truth is a hard sell. Fantasy Free Economics gains readers one at a time. Major search engines simply do not list blogs which disagree with their political agenda. As long as folks share the link to this blog and others speaking out against the grain, the truth will at least trickle into the public consciousness.
