What we see in Venezuela with respect to Chavez’s passing is how leaders are worshiped. This is a little more severe than the style of leadership worship that is practice in the United States, but the tendency exists here as it does in every country in the world.
In a democracy, citizens are expected to hold their leaders accountable and direct their activities. That is not what happens. It is human nature to worship a leader, rather than tell him what to do.
There was a time when the worship of leaders was practiced openly and expected. In today’s world leadership worship is not practiced consciously but unwittingly. It is something people are instinctively hard to do. If you want to know who a person worships, just pay attention to where he places his faith.
